π The Under π
A second dimension for Hytale β islands in the void, with everything that lives there
What is The Under?
The Under is a whole second world you reach through a gate you build yourself. Shattered islands of pale stone drift in an endless violet void, under a sky that never turns to day. There is no ground below and no horizon above β fall off an edge and it is over.
Everything down there is exclusive: creatures that appear nowhere else, plants that grow while you watch, vines that spread across your walls over days, ruined towers with treasure and a guardian, and two families of stone you can build with. All of it runs on the server β your players need nothing but the game.
Getting there
Underrock is the key. It turns up rarely while mining any block in the normal world β about one in 250, so a gate is a milestone rather than a grind. Stack about ten of them into an upright frame and the portal ignites by itself, and you are Under.
Getting home is taken care of: a matching gate stands waiting on the arrival island, and stepping through it puts you back exactly where you left from. Every player's own entry point is remembered, so two people who came from opposite ends of the map each go back to their own doorstep.
The world
The Under generates endlessly as your players explore, always as a band of floating islands with void above and below. Time is locked at a permanent dusk, the sky carries its own weather, and the dimension has its own music β two dark tracks in a slow rhythm with long silences, so it stays atmospheric instead of becoming background noise.
New arrivals always land on the same island, and that arrival island is protected: nobody but an operator can dig it away or wall it in, so no one can strand the next visitor. Everything outside that small square is yours to shape.
The Undermen
Tall, thin figures with glowing violet veins wander the islands. They ignore you completely β until you look one in the eyes. Then it comes for you: it blinks across the world to close the distance, dodges arrows, and hits hard enough to make you regret the eye contact. Kill one and it may leave 0-2 Underpearls.
Throw a pearl and you teleport to wherever it lands β the classic escape route, and the fastest way across a gap you did not plan for. Spectres and void brutes share the islands with them.
The Underplant
Plant a bloom on Understone and it starts to climb. It branches, twists and grows a little differently every single time β no two plants are alike. Break the trunk and the whole plant comes down at once, dropping everything it was made of. Wild groves grow on their own out in the world, so there is always something to harvest.
The plant is a full material chain: harvest stems, press them into blocks at the workbench, and craft a complete 15-piece furniture set at the furniture bench β bed, chair, table, bookshelf, wardrobe, door, trapdoor, ladder, shelf, sign, stool, bench, counter, crate and platform, all in the plant's own violet wood.
Living vines
Glowing vines creep sideways along walls and hang down over the edges, exactly the way you know them: they hold on to each other, so a strand can dangle far below the wall that started it. Cut one link and everything under it drops. They keep spreading while nobody is watching, they never overgrow an entire structure, and they stop once there is nowhere left to go β no runaway growth, no server strain.
Ruined towers
Four kinds of overgrown ruins are scattered across the islands: a watchtower, a temple, a ruin tower and an ocean dome, each rebuilt from Under stone and draped in glowing vines. Every one of them holds a chest with the rarest ore in the game β and a red-veined guardian with five times the health and five times the damage of an Underman.
That guardian watches a wide zone around its chest and notices you the moment you enter it, whether it can see you or not. Walls, ledges and pits will not save you: it simply appears next to you. Towers are rare on purpose β finding one is an event.
Building material
The towers are built from two families of stone, one dark and one pale, in 17 shapes each: full blocks, cobble, bricks, stairs, half slabs, walls, pillars, beams, ornate and smooth variants. Loot them out of a ruin, or make them yourself at the Builder's Bench, where they slot into the same shape menus as the native stone:
- 1 Understone β any dark shape (Builder's Bench)
- 1 Understone + 1 Underbloom β 1 Underrose brick (Workbench)
- 1 Underrose brick β any pale shape (Builder's Bench)
Underward Potion
Brewed at the alchemy bench from five Underpearls, five life essences and an empty bottle. Drink it and the next hits you take are blocked completely β no matter how hard they are. Exactly what you want in your pocket before you open a guarded chest.
For server owners
Drop the jar into your mods folder and start the server β the Under creates itself, no setup, no commands. Everything persists across restarts: plant growth, vine growth, portals, guardians and their zones.
The Under is built to be a farm world: delete the world folder whenever it grows too large, restart, and the plugin cleans up its own data and builds a fresh one with a new layout. Nothing is left behind.
Commands (operators)
- /gunder tp β travel to the Under
- /gunder back β return to your previous world
- /gunder create β create the world by hand
- /gunder gate β rebuild the return gate on the arrival island
- /gunder status β world info
- /gunder spawn
Everything is configurable
World shape (island size, density, height band), portal cooldown and return world, Underrock drop rate, plant and vine growth speed, wild grove frequency, tower frequency and chest contents, guardian zone, potion charges, arrival protection radius β and each recipe group can be switched off individually if you want the towers to be the only source of Under blocks.
Compatibility
Server-side only. No client mod, no resource pack, no external dependency. Works alongside other Glymera plugins.
Changelog
GlymeraUnder - Changelog
v4.0.0 (2026-09-19) β Underward Potion and Underman dodge now work no matter which other mods are installed
Fixed β Blocked hits could still cost health
- On servers running the Under alone, or with only a few other mods, two protections came too late: the Underward Potion used up a charge but you lost the health anyway, and an Underman that dodged your arrow blinked away but still took the damage. The plugin refused the hit only after the server had already taken the health off. Whether it came in time depended on which other mods were loaded, so many servers never saw the problem.
- Both checks now have a fixed place right before the server applies damage. A blocked hit costs no health, and a dodged arrow does no damage.
- Small bonus: a hit that another protection refuses anyway (for example spawn or plot protection from other mods) no longer uses up an Underward charge.
- No configuration change, no world change - just replace the jar.
v3.0.0 (2026-08-28) β Hytale 0.6.0 (Update 6)
- Rebuilt for Hytale 0.6.0 (Update 6). Requires server 0.6.0 or newer; this version does not run on 0.5.x, and older versions of this plugin do not run on 0.6.0.
- Migrated to the 0.6.0 APIs (network protocol hytale/3, new command-permission API, block/chunk/entity API changes). Everything that was open to players before is open to players again.
- Upgrade: delete the old jar from
mods/, drop in the new one and keep the plugin's data folder β configs and saved data carry over unchanged. Restart the server.
v2.0.0 (2026-07-27) - the way home
The Under has a gate of its own
- A return gate now stands in the middle of the protected arrival area. It is built
automatically the first time anyone arrives, always on solid ground and never walled into
rock, with a guaranteed strip of floor in front of it. - The gate is a fully closed rectangle, 4 blocks wide and 5 high on the outside -
corners included - around a 2x3 opening, centred on the arrival point. /gunder gateclears the column and rebuilds exactly one gate.- Walking into it sends each player back to exactly the spot they entered from. The
plugin remembers every player's own entry point and keeps it across restarts. Anyone who
arrived by command, with no entry on record, is sent to the configured return world's
spawn as before. - Until now the Under side had no portal at all: players who walked in without carrying
spare Underrock were stranded, because Underrock never drops inside the Under. - New operator command
/gunder gaterebuilds the gate if it is ever torn down. - Arrivals and respawns now land on the strip in front of the gate instead of on the exact
centre column, so nobody materialises inside the portal. - A gate only ever fires when a player steps into it, never while they are standing in
one. Anyone who arrives inside a portal simply walks out - one block is enough - instead
of being shuttled back and forth. The portal cooldown (now 5 seconds, configurable)
remains as a second line of defence.
Every recipe is craftable again, at the bench it belongs to
- 18 recipes had no bench assignment at all. In Hytale that means they belong to no
bench and to no pocket crafting slot: the recipe shows up in the item info, but there is
nowhere to make it. Affected were the Underplant Block, all 15 Underplant furniture
pieces, the Underward Potion, and Underrose Brick - the last one quietly locked the
entire rose block set, since all 17 rose forms are cut from that one brick. - They now sit where players look for them:
- Furniture bench - all 15 Underplant furniture pieces
- Alchemy bench - the Underward Potion
- Workbench - Underplant Block and Underrose Brick
- Builder's Bench - the 34 block-set forms, unchanged
Recipe switches
- Every recipe group can now be turned off on its own, not just the potion and the block
forms:underwardRecipeEnabled,blockRecipesEnabled,furnitureRecipesEnabled,
plantBlockRecipeEnabled. The items stay in the game and keep dropping - only the recipe
disappears, for servers that want looting to be the only way to get them.
Balance
- Underrock now drops at 1 : 250 instead of 1 : 1000 - roughly 1500 blocks for the
smallest gate instead of 6000. StillunderrockDropChancein the config. - Note for existing servers: the plugin never overwrites config values that are already
there. To pick up the new rate, either setunderrockDropChanceto0.004by hand or
deleteplugins/GlymeraUnder/config.jsonand let it regenerate.
v1.0.0 (2026-07-26) - first release
The dimension
- A second world, "The Under": endless floating islands of Understone in a violet void,
permanent dusk, own weather and own music (two dark tracks with long silences). - The world creates itself on first server start - no setup required. Time is locked,
the arrival island is generated deterministically, and the world spawn is pinned to it
so first joins and respawns always land in a safe place. - Built as a farm world: delete the world folder any time, restart, and the plugin wipes
its own registries and generates a fresh Under.
Getting there
- Underrock drops rarely from mining any block in the normal world (1 : 1000 by default,
configurable, and disabled inside the Under itself). - Stack about ten into an upright frame and the portal ignites by itself. It works both
ways and returns players to the world they came from. Breaking the frame collapses the
portal; the portal interior can never be mined or dropped by anyone. - The arrival area is protected from griefing: non-operators can neither build nor break
within a configurable square around the arrival point.
Creatures
- Undermen - neutral until you look them in the eyes, then they teleport to you, dodge
projectiles and strike hard. They drop 0-2 Underpearls. Spectres and void brutes share
the islands with them; all of them spawn through Hytale's native world spawn system. - Underpearls - throw one and you teleport to the point where it lands.
- Tower guardians - red-veined skeletons with 5x health and 5x damage that watch a
20-block zone around their treasure chest. They notice players with or without line of
sight and teleport next to anyone who tries to reach the chest from cover.
Plants
- Underplant - plant a bloom on Understone and it climbs and branches, differently every
time. Breaking the trunk fells the whole plant. Wild groves generate across the world. - Full material chain: stems β Underplant Block β a 15-piece furniture set in the plant's
own violet wood (bed, chair, table, bookshelf, wardrobe, door, trapdoor, ladder, shelf,
sign, stool, bench, counter, crate, platform). - Undervines - glowing wall vines that spread sideways and downwards, hang free below
the wall's end supported by the vine above them, and drop their unsupported strand when a
link is cut. Growth is paced and self-limiting: overgrown areas stop consuming server time
entirely until something nearby changes.
Structures and building material
- Four ruined towers (watchtower, temple, ruin tower, ocean dome) scatter across the
islands, each rebuilt in Under stone, overgrown with vines, with a treasure chest holding
adamantite bars and a guardian nearby. - Two block families in 17 shapes each - Understone (dark) and Underrose (pale): full
blocks, cobble, bricks, stairs, half slabs, walls, pillars, beams, ornate and smooth.
Craftable at the Builder's Bench (1 Understone per dark shape; Understone + Underbloom
makes an Underrose brick, which shapes into the pale forms) or lootable from the ruins.
Potion
- Underward Potion - 5 Underpearls + 5 life essence + an empty bottle. Blocks the next
hits you take completely, however hard they are. Charge count is configurable.
Server owners
- Operator commands:
/gunder tp,/gunder back,/gunder create,/gunder status,
/gunder spawn <type>. - Configurable: world shape (island size, density, height band), auto-creation, portal
cooldown and return world, Underrock drop rate, plant and vine growth speed, wild grove
and tower frequency, chest contents, potion charges, arrival protection radius, and each
recipe group individually. - Server-side only: no client mod, no resource pack, no external dependency.
